Why all the Streaking?
The Streak ⚡ series Apps are inspired by a New Year's resolution I cooked up with my brother-in-law in the days after Christmas one year. Born partly out of guilt about how much we'd consumed, and partly driven by a desire to look good and reverse the inevitable ageing process, we created "The Push Up Challenge".
The goal was simple: "How many consecutive days could you perform push ups?" But there was a catch. Every day got tougher. Starting with a single push up, each new day you added 1 to the target. If completed, on the last day of the year you'd perform 365. It didn't matter how you completed them: non-stop, in sets, or throughout the day - you just had to reach the target for that day.
"Oh yeah, this year we are really going to get into shape."
So, in the New Year the challenge began. Jan, Feb, March, April - no problem. Then at the start of May just after the 120 mark I let it slip. From there on I continued every other day till 160. Well done, a pat on the back, surely I have won the challenge… Anyway, I felt great and was now fit for the summer and I would have fun gloating over my brother-in-law when we next met.
A few months went by, and it was around September time when we finally met again and I could not believe my eyes. My brother-in-law's shape had completely changed. "Was he still doing the Push Up Challenge?". Yes he was, and he had not missed a day. The gloating was all his. In fact, throughout that year (a leap-year), he managed to complete all 366 days. Central London commute. Long hours. Weekends, holidays, sickness. Not a day missed! If the train carriage was empty on his way home, he got down and did Push Ups. And boy, he looked good 😉.
So the Streak series is born out of this mad legacy. And me? I've since upped my game and a couple of years ago averaged 100 push-ups a day for the whole year. This year (2024) I'm doing the same, but now using the App to auto-count my push-ups. If I rest for a day, I use the bank feature to keep me honest and recover over the next few days. So far so good...
That's the back story. Good luck creating your own New Year's challenge.
Have fun streaking! 😀
